Server downtime - whats acceptable..?
« on: May 07, 2012, 11:51:06 AM »
HI,

Ive been  user of Doteasy for well over 10 years and we have about 20 sites hosted with them. they have always been reliable and I have recommended them to many other people.

However in the last few days one of our main sites is showing lot of downtime;
   07/05/2012 10:52:06   07/05/2012 11:12:06   20m
   07/05/2012 09:47:06   07/05/2012 09:57:06   10m
   06/05/2012 08:22:06   06/05/2012 08:57:06   35m
   05/05/2012 05:12:06   05/05/2012 05:47:06   35m
   04/05/2012 09:07:06   04/05/2012 10:42:06   1h 35m
   03/05/2012 13:07:06   03/05/2012 13:42:06   35m

Uptime 99.42%
Downtime 4h 10m
The average downtime length is 25m
Number of downtimes 10
The longest downtime was 1h 35m on 04/05/2012 09:07:06 and the shortest was 5m on 07/04/2012 16:52:06

We have several sites hosted with Doteasy but only have monitoring on the most important, but this domain is the only one that seems to be experiencing downtime at the moment.

I've opened a thread and received two responses from support and their best suggestion is that I should upgrade to cloud hosting to improve reliability.

Well, its not going to happen.

So far as I am concerned we are already paying them to give us a reliable hosting platform, and if they can't do that then Im more likely to find another ISP than I am to upgrade the hosting plan!

Before deciding, my questions are;
what is an acceptable amount of downtime?
what are other people experiencing?
am I being unreasonable in expecting better reliability and more interest from Doteasy support
should I not be suspicious that our site reliability seems to have recently got worse, just when Doteasy are trying to sell me an updated hosting plan..?

Any feedback welcome

Thanks

Mike

Hmm that's really weird. i've been with them for a few years now and i've never experienced anything like this before. I think it just might be you man.

And anything over 99% is pretty decent uptime. Some other hosting providers are much lower compared to dot Easy.

for me they have always been up. you know you should just call them directly and talk to them and see what they can do

i think a 99% uptime is still pretty decent. If I needed maximum uptime then I would consider going for their cloud hosting service. Higher quality usually comes with higher costs. Still up to you to decide whether or not you need it.

Why would you change your ISP?  (Internet Service Provider)
