If I say wanted to point my website to a new IP, would I just have to create an A record, or does it have to be a CNAME record, what's the difference?

cname basically associates a subdomain to another domain

shop.domain.com -> shop.website.com -> IP

A record points a domain/subdomain to an IP address

domain.com -> IP
