I have a domain name with another company that I wanted to transfer to Doteasy. I let it expire with them, but when I try to sign up for it through Doteasy, it says that the name is not available. I tried searching whois, and it shows that the old company is still holding the domain name, even though it expired. Why are they still holding it? How do I get control of my domain name?

Expired domains entered a "redemption period" once they expired which allows for the registrant to re-register the domain in case they have forgotten the renewal date. The redemption period is between 30 and 40 days from when the name expires.
